with fourth stage of oral cancer by Dr. Rajan Sahu Sr. surgeon oncology
department at Alchemist Hospital recently.

from fourth stage of oral cancer was lost all hopes of being well but the
strong will of the family and efforts of Dr. Rajan Sahu and his team comprising
Dr. Himanshu plastic surgeon and well equipped anesthesia team operated the
patient and removed the tumor successfully from both side of neck.
Dr. Rajan Sahu said that the cancerous growth involved floor
of mouth, anterior tongue and mandible. Patient was operated upon removing entire
floor of mouth, about 75% of tongue, part of lower jaw and lymphnodes were also
removed from both sides of neck for complete tumor clearance.
Reconstruction of the defect was done using flesh from chest

in neck which helps in breathing) was done. Patient recovered uneventfully
and leading normal life with his family. Now he is free from tracheostomy and
eating normally through mouth.
His recovery has sent a message to the cancer patients, that
cancer if treated properly is curable though needs regular follow up with doctor.
Dr Sahu further said that smoking, chewing tobacoo, khaini,
zarda are the main causes of cancer. In last two years many such cases of oral
cancer have been treated successfully at Alchemist Hospital.
