Panchkula: 12 Years old girl treated successfully in Alchemist Hospital
Panchkula for torsion ovarian cyst by gynecologist Dr. Ibha sr. consultant
Gynecology Alchemist Hospital. Ovarian Torsion is a condition when an ovary becomes twisted around the tissues that support
it.
Dr. Ibha said that patient was admitted in Alchemist hospital
with acute pain in abdomen. Ultrasound and clinical investigation revealed a
large ovarian cyst with torsion( twisted ovary). She underwent immediate
laparoscopic surgery which involved ovarian ditorsion(untwist) and cystectomy
(removal of cyst). Inappropriately all attempts were made to save the ovary and
avoid spillage of ovarian fluid. Postoperative period was uneventful.
Ovarian torsion is a medical
emergency. If not treated quickly, it can result in loss of an ovary.
Dr. Ibha further said that any surgery for ovarian cyst in
children and adolescent should be carried out by a gynecologist with
appropriate surgical skill to reduce the need for an unnecessary opening of
abdomen or removal of ovaries.
